1940-2020
It is with the deepest regrets that we must share with you the passing of Sensei Makimoto on February 12, 2020. Sensei Makimoto will be deeply missed by his many students whom he taught over the past 60 years, the many colleagues he laughed with and judo players gracefully threw for ippon. Sensei may no longer be with us but he would have liked you to join us back on the mat – the legacy of Sensei Makimoto will never be forgotten!!!
All levels Judo classes will resume on:
Tuesday’s and Thursday’s 8:00pm-9:15pm
Kids and Adults (six year-olds to adults)
Sensei Dean Louie
Head Instructor
With the passing of Sensei Makimoto, the Head Instructor has been passed to Sensei Dean Louie. Sensei Dean has been the assistant instructor for Okubo Judo for the last 25 years when he returned to the judo mat with his 7 year old daughter.
Kuniko Takeuchi
Technical Advisor
Kuniko Takeuchi is the Technical Advisor at the Okubo Judo Club. Kuniko has taught judo for more than 50 years in the Sacramento area. She is a 2019 Hall of Fame Inductee.
Kuniko is currently the highest ranking woman in the United States and holds an 8th degree black belt. She is a life member of the United States Judo Federation and USA Judo. She also the Director of the PJC Kata Commission and serves on the International Judo Federation (IJF) Kata Committee and is an IJF Kata Judge, She had helped as a Technical Staff at the 1996 Atlantic Olympic Game for Judo and was also an Instructor at the Kodokan Women’s section – Tokyo, Japan from 1962-1968.
